Today we start our first study on the short, but powerful Old Testament prophet, Habakkuk. It is quite evident from the opening verses of Chapter 1 that he experienced the self-same problems and frustrations we all go through. He calls out to God, saying, “Why don’t you answer me and how long must I wait?”
I’m sure you have stood in his sandals and asked these very same questions. Well there is no quick answer to Habakkuk’s dilemma and ours. Having said that, of this we can be sure, that God does hear our prayers and loves to answer, but he is not tied into our limited agenda and life.
God is working out his purpose in the world and bringing all things into conformity with his will. That may mean you won’t get what you asked for, or you may have to wait a few years as God has a bigger purpose in mind. Don’t for a moment let this delay deter you from praying and asking. I have found more often than not, God in grace, answers my prayer and gives me guidance sooner than I ever anticipated. Remember God’s delays are not necessarily God’s denials. Don’t give up.
