We have all been saddened to hear of the devastation, suffering and loss of life that is unfolding in Nepal over recent days. It has been estimated that over 4000 people have lost their lives. Nepalese hospitals are overflowing with the injured, and ¼ of the population are in need. This huge devastation comes on the back of us trying to get help to Vanuatu after their huge storm. If these 2 disasters weren’t enough, we are also having to consider the growing refugee problem in Syria and the boat people trying to escape conflict in Africa by crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
What do we do? How do we respond? What does God expect of us? It is clear from Scripture that we, as Christians, should be involved in helping, giving and serving where we can. We can’t do it all, but we can at least do something.
Pray and ask God to show you how you can help or what you should give. Let us give what we can and pray for God’s intervention to strengthen the hands of the relief teams who are on the ground.
James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
