From Ben – 8 November 2015

This past month I have been once again challenged over the subject of prayer. This time it has not been the need to pray more, but rather the importance of trusting God, that His will be done.

Now some people say that when we pray, “Your will be done” we are simply hedging our bets, lest God does not answer. That is not the case at all. Prayer is not a blank cheque for us to always get whatever we ask. Rather, prayer is us asking God and then trusting that in his mercy and grace, he will grant our request, if it fits with his bigger plan for our lives, and ultimately his kingdom.

When we do not get what we ask for, it is not that God has not heard, or is incapable of answering; rather it is because God has different plans, bigger plans, better plans, that we may come to know later. What we are called to do is to pray believing that God can grant whatever we ask in his name; but may not if it is out of his greater plan and purpose.

We must remember prayer is not us getting heaven to do our will on earth, but us conforming our lives to do Heaven’s will on earth. We must pray and trust that God knows what is best.

Father your will, not mine!
