I have just started to lead my home group through the N.T. books of 1 & 2 Timothy. Timothy was a young man in the N.T. who was taken under the wing of the Apostle Paul, to mentor, nurture and grow in the Christian life.
We see that, despite the fact that he was timid and often reticent to get involved in church conflicts, yet Paul sent him out time and again to sort out issues in the early developing church. There is hardly a more important young man in the history of the early church.
What I noticed about him was that his early training and development as a Christian started long before the apostle Paul came on the scene.
We read this verse in 2 Timothy 1:5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
It was his grandmother and mother who helped form and mould the life and character of Timothy. They did the groundwork from which the early church benefited so effectively.
May I encourage mothers and grandmother on this Mother’s Day, not to overlook the opportunity to do all you can to instill in your children and grandchildren God’s word and ways. In the years to come they will become the leaders in God’s work and others will rise up to bless you for impacting the life of your children and grandchildren
Prov 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
