In the home group that meets on a Wednesday night at the manse, we are looking at the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23. The first fruit is “love” and the second is “joy”.
Joy is a missing ingredient in many peoples’ lives today, including Christians. They seem to be getting on with life and just coping; there seems to be little joy displayed or spoken about.
When a lady was questioned about her lack of joy, she was quick to point out that the Christian life is the way of the cross and the way of suffering. She said the Christian is to weep and mourn.
Well, that may be true at times, but Jesus came that we may have new life and life to the full. He promised His disciples before He left that He would be with them, by His Holy Spirit and their joy would be full and complete.
Even the Apostle Paul points out, in the book of Romans 14:17 that the way of God is not a lot of rules about what we can and can’t do, but the way of righteousness and deep joy in the Holy Spirit.
God wants you to be full of joy and express that joy in life. We have been blessed with so much and the best is yet to come. Of all the people in the world, the Christian is to be an example of joy and contentment.
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice.
