From Ben – 6 July 2014

You may have noticed in the news that there has been a strong backlash against a N.Z. Maori king’s son. It appears that this young man has broken the law and should be liable for punishment and spend time behind bars. The judge however has dropped the charges against him and his co-accused because of his royal position.

This travesty of justice does not sit well with many. However when I reflected on the case, I saw the similarities to what God has done for us in Christ. We, like that young man are law-breakers and sinners, deserving of punishment and condemnation. The judge, who is God the Father, drops all charges against us because, through faith in Christ and his finished work on the cross, we are adopted into God’s family.

Now in the light of the fact that we have become royalty, a royal priesthood and a holy nation, we too are pardoned, forgiven, and justified. This too is a travesty of justice, but it is the case by God’s grace, pardon and forbearance. Thank God today that in and through the grace of God we receive pardon in place of punishment.
