From Ben – 28 February 2016

This has been a sad and somewhat difficult week for me. I have visited 3 of our people who have been laid up in hospital. One of them is seriously ill in intensive care, yet only last Sunday he worshipped enthusiastically with us and chatted with me in the lounge after the service.

I have been reminded of how quickly illness strikes and how quickly we can be laid low. Adding to the sadness of 3 of our members being ill, has been hearing of the trauma and devastation caused by the recent huge cyclone in Fiji. You may be unaware that some of our own church families have had their extended families affected by the storm. This Sunday and next we will be taking up a special retiring offering to help in as best way we can. I am aware that some of you may well have given to some other organisation that has responded to the Fiji disaster relief. At church there will be the opportunity to give, if you haven’t already done so.

As I reflect on our people in hospital and the Fijian community, I am aware that we have a God-given responsibility to help wherever we can and to give generously.

1 John 3:17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?
