This has been a significant week in the political landscape of N.Z. As you know, John Key, who has served as the Prime minister for 8 years, has stepped down. He has been a political leader who has had to navigate the stormy waters of a world economic meltdown and has been at the helm through the Christchurch earthquake and the Pike river disaster. His reason for standing down, to spend more time with his wife and family, is commendable.
As leaders, like Key and Obama come and go we are aware that all worldly leadership is temporary, transient and uncertain. How comforting and reassuring for us to recognise this Christmas that our Lord Jesus is unchanging and our eternal leader. The bible tells us that leaders come and go but your throne O God will last forever and ever and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. They will perish but you remain the same. They will wear out like a garment Hebrews 1:8&12
Let us be sure not to look too heavily and rely too strongly on any leader, no matter how good he or she may be, our hope is in the Lord who never changes.
