It is with great sadness that we have come to hear that a young man, Tevita, has gone missing in the Waitemata harbour (update: his body has been recovered). Tevita, along with Gavin, and a number of friends, were on a charter boat celebrating a birthday party, as they sailed around the harbour last Saturday night. The boat, for some reason lurched, causing Tevita to fall into the frigid waters. He could not swim. Our love and sympathy as a church family go out to Tevita’s family and friends, at this difficult time.

As I reflect on the enormous tragedy, I am reminded once again, of how uncertain life is; how we need to treasure one another and how we all need to live daily in a state of readiness to meet our Maker. Tevita was a young man who had a growing interest in God’s word and a love for being with God’s people. I have every confidence that, although his earthly frame has not yet been discovered, he is safe in the arms of Jesus.
