From Ben – 18 May 2014

The abduction of about 300 girls from their boarding school in Chibok, Nigeria, on 15th April, by radical militant Islamist group Boko Haram, continues to concern the international community. This group is responsible for the torching of a village close by where over 200 people were murdered and has abducted more than 1 500 people over the past year.

I cannot begin to understand the loss and anxiety of the families of the girls, who were trying to do their best for their daughters, and now face the prospect of perhaps never seeing them again. Added to this is the realisation that some of them may be sold as wives or even slaves.

Let us pray earnestly for their safe return. Let us pray against all such ruthless violence by this and other groups that prey on the innocent and vulnerable.

Let us pray for the rule and reign of Christ in our world, which brings peace, love, compassion and respect. The answer to our planet’s problems is the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
