From Ben – 6 February 2016
This is my first article for the new year. As I have considered all the potential and opportunities that lay ahead this year I want to direct your thoughts to the call of Scripture to make the most of every opportunity. It is a sobering thought to realise that time is passing and we can’t afford to let it just slip by unused, and uncaptured.
When we were in Paris this past month I happened to look into a very expensive jewellers window. I saw a man’s watch with a €16 000 price tag on it. On reflection it does not matter how much a watch costs, all watches mark the minutes and hours just the same and that time needs to be carefully and meaningfully used.
I believe that time is God’s gift to use, not to abuse, for our good and his glory. God wants us to enjoy the life he gives us, but we can’t afford to let it slip by. He wants us to consider how we can make the best possible use of it; how we can serve him and his gospel; how we can show his love and grace to others; how best to invest the fleeting hours and days that are given.
Will you take a moment to consider how best you can make this year count for God and how best you can serve others? Set some new goals and resolve to make the best use of your time. You won’t get the time back so use it wisely.
