From Ben – 10 October 2021
This past week I have been contacted by a past congregant who has opened a discussion with me regarding concerns over being vaccinated. They have been influenced by antivaxxers with strong views on the dangers of the vaccine and its long term effects, directing me to a very lengthy and disturbing video slating the Covid-19 vaccine. I did my best to try to show how misplaced their concerns were from a Christian perspective, and how I believed the video was spurious and misleading.
It is my strong belief that, as Christians, we have a God-given responsibility to our family, church and community to get the Covid-19 vaccine. Over the years we have all received the measles, polio and other vaccines. These have protected us, our children and our communities. In the same way it is our duty to all around us to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
Lest anyone continues to be concerned, remember that our Lord said in Matthew 15:11 “It is not what goes into a person’s mouth that makes them unclean but rather what comes out of their mouth that makes them unclean.”
Because our bodies are the temple of God and the repository of the Holy Spirit, we must do all we can to protect and preserve our bodies, for the service of God. If that means being vaccinated against Covid-19, then let us do so as soon as possible in honour of God and deference to others.
