Matthew 6:25-34 is a lovely passage of Scripture that invites us not to worry, but to trust God. Jesus said that our Heavenly Father loves us and cares for us.

He points out how well the flowers of the field are clothed. In Palestine, after the spring rains, the fields burst into iridescent colours. Flowers grow among the grass and change the whole landscape for a few weeks. If God clothes the fields so well, will he not also see that we are adequately clothed.

He also points to the birds that are so prolific in Palestine. Because Palestine has a narrow corridor of arable farmland, hemmed in by the sea on the one side and the desert on the other side, a natural passage is provided for the migrating birds travelling form Africa to Europe. Birds are plentiful as certain seasons of the year. Jesus reminds us that he feeds and cares for the birds that are so common, so won’t he care much more for us?

To show us how highly he values us, he sent his Son to live and die for us. We are deeply loved and so very valuable to our heavenly Father. So why worry as you do? Trust him. Rest in him. Believe that he will not withhold what is best for you.

Only those who do not know the love of God need worry and fret.
