From Ben – 18 July 2021
Sadly my fishing days have come to an end for this season. No one could entice me to go out to sea in this type of weather! However, in the summer months I have a number of special spots or locations that I love to go to as my prime fishing spots. I have a marine GPS that has weigh points, ie. specially marked spots, that I have discovered are good for fishing.
My bible also has weigh points carefully marked in various places. These passages are promises, that over the years, have meant a lot to me or have comforted me in my Christian journey. What I have done is put a date and a word or two next to that passage or promise as a reminder for me. Just as I have weigh points on my boat’s charts, so too I have weigh points in my bible.
Every time I come across one of these special passages, I stop and reflect on God’s goodness, provision, grace and love. I know that some people do not ever write in their bible, but I find it helpful to remind me of those special occasions where God has clearly spoken.
Perhaps I am showing my age, as I use a printed bible and do not use a tablet or phone for my devotional reading. However I am sure there is a way to mark a spiritual weigh point on one of the electronic devices you use. In Psalm 103 David says, “forget not all His benefits…” I have found that marking those passages serves as a reminder of how God has graciously dealt with me in the past.
May I encourage you to do the same. It will bring to mind God’s past help, inspiring you to go on with Him despite the present challenges.
