From Ben – 25 July 2021

As you are aware, the troubled Japanese Olympic Games have gotten under way, despite all the challenges of Covid-19. There are many competitions and events that lay ahead, and I have been reflecting on the fact that the bible, compares the Christian life to a race. Not that we compete with each other, but we discipline ourselves to run our personal race well.

In Hebrews 12:1 we are reminded to run, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith.

In 2 Timothy 4:7 we are told to run to the end of the race and not give up or bail out before the end.

In Galatians 5:7 we are told, not to deviate from the course or wander from the straight track by following a false gospel.

In James 1:12 we are told to persevere when the going is tough and the trials are hardest because at the right time we will be rewarded.

In 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 we are told to train and discipline ourselves to give our very best in the race. We are to be diligent and focussed.

In Psalm 119:37 we are told to run the race according to the commands and rules that have been given.

In 2 Timothy 4:7 we are reminded that as a faithful runner, we will be rewarded in the end. It is well worth the effort.

It is my prayer that we will be good and faithful runners in the race of faith. That we will be diligent, focussed, committed and true to the end. The race is not for those who start well and fast, but for those who run well and finish strong.
