From Ben – 24 April 2016
This weekend we remember the ANZACs and their enormous sacrifice so long ago to give us freedom from oppression and tyranny. So many young men and women paid the ultimate price for the freedom and liberty we so enjoy, and it is right for us to pause and reflect on what they gave up for us.
I was interested to see that the historians have recently discovered hidden records of the true numbers of soldiers involved in that heroic conflict. This discovery has made them rewrite the history of the event, doubling the numbers of NZ combatants.
As I reflected on this oversight, I could not help but think that our Lord does not make that kind of mistake. The bible says he knows those who are his. He even knows us by name. In the book of the Revelation it speaks of 144 000. That is not to be taken as a literal number, but rather a symbolic number of perfection (12x12x1000)
God knows his soldiers. He knows who are his and he has all our names recorded in heaven’s register, called the Lamb’s book of life. We will never be lost and our names will never be misplaced. Praise God.
