From Ben – 19 May
You would have noticed that we have started advertising a new set of membership classes at G.P.C.
Many people think that because they have attended G.P.C. for a year or more that they automatically become members of the church. That is not the case at all. Just attending puts you in the category of an adherent as far as our central office is concerned. Each year every church is assessed and its statistics regarding membership, adherents, children and finance is recorded and assessed. It is important for us, as a local church and the Presbyterian denomination, to have accurate data on the size and state of all our churches.
I also believe that there is a spiritual component to settling with one church and taking out membership. This shows loyalty, commitment and a willingness to identify with us. Membership also opens the door for you to serve in the ministry of our church and be nominated for an official role in the Presbyterian church, should you want to.
As I read scripture it is evident that Christians identified themselves with a local church as their place of worship and learning. May I encourage you to take a membership form and apply. It will mean you will have to attend 2 classes, covering the history and teaching of the Presbyterian denomination and the policies and beliefs of G.P.C.
I look forward to seeing you at our membership intake classes on 23rd & 30th May.
