From Ben – 22 March 2015

We have all been made aware of the huge damage caused by the recent cyclone Pam. Fortunately it did not cause much damage to N.Z, but it has totally devastated our Pacific neighbour, Vanuatu, decimating the entire infrastructure.

This is a huge disaster that calls not only for our sympathy and prayers, but also for our generosity. The Presbyterian Church of N.Z. has a long standing partnership with the church in Vanuatu. At present the Presbyterian Church has 6 workers on the ground there.

Our moderator Rt. Rev Andrew Norton has set in place an appeal fund to help rebuild and repair the shattered nation. I am reminded of the church in the book of Acts 11, how when a famine struck, the rest of the church gathered together money that would relieve them in their time of distress. The disciples each, according to their ability, decided to provide help for the brothers living in Judea. This is our opportunity to do the same. This is an opportunity for us to show Christian generosity.

Donations to Pacific Vision: Vanuatu can be made directly to Presbyterian Church by making a deposit into this bank account: BNZ Willis Street: 02 0500 0086963 000 (please add a reference “Pacific Vision: Vanuatu” and advise Katrina Graham if a receipt is required)
