From Ben – 17 October 2021
I read this week of a lady by the name of Mary Hedges, who was at a shopping mall when two boys who were fooling around, pushed a supermarket trolley over the railing, causing it to fall on Mary. Mary lost the sight in one eye, had her foot amputated and was in a coma for weeks. When she recovered, she completely forgave those boys. She knew that there was no benefit to her to hold resentment towards the two boys, who had no intention to hurt her.
As Christians, we too have been undeservingly forgiven. God, in grace, through Christ, has forgiven our sin and separated it from Himself as far as the East is from the West. In light of His generous forgiveness, we too are called on, not only to glorify God for this enormous privilege, but also to extend forgiveness to others.
The text we will look at this Sunday will deal with Jesus reaching out to a lonely, frightened young man, giving him a forgiveness he never thought was possible.
