For a long time now I have wanted to look more deeply into Genesis 1-11. These first 11 chapters of the Bible introduce us to some of the most important themes developed in the rest of the Bible.
It has been quite challenging to try to unclutter my thinking to try to understand what the plain words of Scripture are saying. My biggest struggle is to try to comprehend as best as I can the nature and vastness of God. I find myself understanding God …in terms of my limited human, earthly perspective. As I make this mistake I limit and restrict the God of the Bible. I am trying to think of the God who is outside of time, who is all present, and without limitations in his strength and knowledge, who never tires or changes or is unaware of anything at any time, who knows all things and sees all things and who never makes a mistake or regrets what he chooses to do. My struggle with understanding these opening passages is that my view of God is defective and limited.
May I ask you when you last walked the path I am on? When did you last stop to consider this amazing God who allows us to call him Father, yet is beyond description and our limited comprehension? I am coming to see that a great view of God leads to deeper experiences of him.
Micah 7:18 Who is a God like you,
who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance?
