All of us have had to supply proof of our identity when we apply for something official. Often a driver’s licence will do, but sometimes, if it is really important, more personal information is asked for.
As Christians, however, that is not our full identity. We are a lot more than just the information on our driver’s licence or passport. We have a double identity, because we have a duel citizenship. We belong to God’s kingdom as well as living on earth.
Do you realise that being a committed Christian gives you a heavenly identity as well? Too often we forget what and who we are in God’s sight. We are heavenly citizens, born to belong to God, chosen, loved, forgiven, and justified. We are loved eternally and promised an inheritance that will never perish, spoil or fade.
I challenge you to spend some time reading Ephesians 1 and discovering at least 20 different aspects of your new identity in Christ. God wants us to live lives that reflect, not only our earthly identity, but our heavenly identity.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3
