From Ben – 7 March 2021

In my private devotions at present I am reading once again the fascinating and challenging letter to the Hebrews. All my Christian life I have been fascinated with this rich, informative New Testament letter. This past week I read chapter 5 and it reminds us that Jesus is the greater high priest who, unlike the Old Testament high priests, is understanding and sympathetic, identifying with us in our weaknesses, and trials.

He endured all the hardships of a normal life with its highs and lows, sorrows, disappointments and hard knocks, yet without sin. It is because He is so understanding of our humanity that that letter to Hebrews says, v16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we can receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

How encouraging it is to know that we can come with a godly confidence to Him who is full of grace and compassion, knowing that He won’t turn us away or set unrealistic expectations on us.

Rather, at His throne of grace, we will receive mercy and help in our time of need. Whatever you are facing today, may I encourage you to lay it as His feet for He has, and always will, meet your deepest needs, like no one else could ever do.

He is more wiling to answer than you are to ask.
